Exam Structure & Requirements

The Grade 1 Violin Exam consists of three sections, totaling 100 marks:

1. Recital (60 Marks)

2. Technical Section (25 Marks)
   Candidates choose one option:
   
   • Option 1: Perform the technical exercises and scales from memory.
   • Option 2: Perform the technical exercises plus an alternative technical task in place of scales.

   From-memory scales & arpeggios include:
   G major (2 octaves), D major (1 octave), A natural minor (1 octave).
   Arpeggios: D major (1 octave), G major (2 octaves), A minor (1 octave).

3. Musicianship (15 Marks)
   Choose one option:
   
   • Option 1: Reading Skills (rhythm exercises) plus Listening Skills (singing back notes or rhythms).
   • Option 2: Reading Skills plus a Duet performance.
